Fly Fishing Outings

The Shasta Mayflies organize fishing outings to lakes, streams and rivers within driving distance of Redding. These events give us the opportunity to learn about new places to fish and how to fish them. Best of all, we have fun! Check out the fishing photos on our Photo Album webpage.

Directions, recommended gear and flies, carpool info and all you need to know about each outing will be provided at a club meeting or via email. Sign-ups are required. Occassionally, the outings schedule changes from what is posted on this website. For more information, contact us at mayflies@shastamayflies.org.

For more info on club meetings, visit our Meetings & Programs webpage.

Squaw Creek will be a new outing for us added to our popular McCloud River outing. Camp or stay in cabins.

September 25
Day Trip

Clear Creek, Redding

October 22 - 24, Friday - Sunday
Long Weekend

Rogue River, Shady Cove, Oregon
Fish from the shore or book a guide and fish from a boat (book early as this can be a popular time). This section of river is fly fishing only this time of year, so should have less pressure. If you're looking for a change from the steelhead fishing, fish for trout in the "Holy Water" of McGregor Park.

October 23, Saturday
Day Trip

Upper Sacramento River, Dunsmuir
Lots of public access between Lake Shasta and the town of Mt Shasta make this outing different every year. Nymph during the day and dry-fly the evening bite. Beautiful, wild rainbow trout on most of the river with some willing planters in downtown Dunsmuir to ensure everyone catches fish!

November 19 - 21, Friday - Sunday
Day Trip or Overnight

Trinity River Steelhead, Lewiston
If it's November and you're fishing on the Trinity River, it's to catch the wonderfully challenging steelhead.  There are a lot of places to fish on this river near Lewiston, Douglas City and Junction City. You can fish from the shore (lots of public access) or make guide arrangements (book early as this is a popular time).

This is a joint outing with the Golden West Women Flyfishers, so come on out to meet some new folks or catch up with old friends from the Bay Area.

Significant others are welcome and potlucks are planned for both Friday and Saturday nights. This year we're trying a newly remodeled lodge for the potluck venue. They have offered an upstairs meeting room, the cafe or one of the large suites, depending on the size of our group. The lodge offers a wide variety of sleeping accommodations - some dog-friendly and some with kitchens. It's best to book before July 1st. Please mention the club name when you reserve.

For more info, come to a club meeting or send us an email.

2011 Outings Calendar

January 7 - 9, Friday - Sunday
Day Trip or Overnight

Trinity River Steelhead, Lewiston -- AGAIN!
For Mayflies who think the best steelhead fishing is in foul weather, this will be the time to prove it! January is often a great time for wild steelhead in Lewiston. Bring your woollies!

Fish one of the best steelhead rivers in northern California. Wade fish with your fellow Mayflies at some of the many public access points. Or book a guide and fish from the boat (book early as this is also a popular time).
